Rainer Mühlberger (62), Head of Technology and Deputy CEO, has decided to hand over the management of the business unit Technology and leave the Executive Board in the course of 2021. As Senior Strategic Advisor, he will in future concentrate primarily on strategic issues, in particular the development of the 2027 strategy, and in this capacity will continue to report directly to the CEO, Yves Zumwald.
Rainer Mühlberger joined Swissgrid in December 2011 as Head of Strategy. In this position, he played a key role in the successful transfer of ownership of the Swiss transmission grid as at 3 January 2013. He has been a member of the Executive Board since October 2013, initially as Head of Strategy & Development. He was appointed Head of Technology on 1 February 2016. This position allowed him to considerably help shape and develop the business unit Technology. He successfully implemented a number of major initiatives in the areas of critical IT applications and IT infrastructure, as well as IT security.
The internal and external search for a successor will begin in the coming weeks. Rainer Mühlberger’s successor will take over his position in the second half of 2021 after a comprehensive period of induction.
«I would like to thank Rainer Mühlberger warmly for his commitment and excellent work over the past years and I am pleased that we can continue to count on his expertise and experience in the future. His early announcement of his resignation from the Executive Board will enable Swissgrid to find the best solution for his succession without any time pressure,» says Yves Zumwald, CEO of Swissgrid.
