On 21 December 2016, the Federal Inspectorate for Heavy Current Installations (ESTI) approved the latest construction plans for the section of the Nant de Drance pumped storage power station's connection to the electricity transmission network between La Bâtiaz station and Le Verney.
The 2010 project to establish a 380 kV overhead line between La Bâtiaz and Le Rosel had been replaced by a new one to establish 1.3 km underground cable link to cross the Rhône valley between La Bâtiaz and Le Verney. For this last section, the 380 kV cable line will be placed at a depth of 25 to 30 metres and will connect the La Bâtiaz substation to the existing 380 kV overhead line between Chamoson and Romanel level with Le Verney, in the commune of Martigny.
Swissgrid will start to study the construction details for this deep cable link and will subsequently launch calls for tender for the construction works. The final technical details of this project will be made known after the detailed planning and the call for tender procedure.
All the building permits relating to the connection of the Nant de Drance power plant to the grid have been granted accordingly. The construction works relating to both the different sections of the line and the stations, started in 2015, are progressing as planned.
